Rescue Diver

Clement teaching a rescue class

Calling this course a "rescue" course is somewhat inaccurate. First and foremost, the PADI Rescue Diver program teaches you how to prevent problems from developing into accidents through preparation, vigilance, and recognition of the signs of stress. Stress recognition encompasses not only stress in other divers, but also recognition of stress in yourself. This means that a Rescue Diver does not only help keep a group of divers safe—that Rescue Diver also keeps him/herself safe as well.

Because sometimes accidents happen anyway, this course also teaches you how to perform rescues of skin and SCUBA divers, including:

  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Panicked diver response
  • In-water rescue breathing protocols
  • Removing an injured or non-responsive person from the water
  • Dive accident scenarios

This class consists of some classroom time and a challenging weekend that will impart on you the importance of always being prepared.

Prerequisites

Students must be certified in first aid and CPR. Splash offers the PADI Emergency First Response course which satisfies these prerequisites.
