Advanced Technical Courses

These courses all require mastering the skills in the beginning technical courses. They will introduce you to a fun but controversial fringe of sport diving. Make sure your skills are top-notch and your awareness is superb.

TDI Extended Range Air or Entry Level TRIMIX

Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures served as an introduction to how to perform decompression, and it included a slight increase in your depth limit to 150 fsw. Now with this class, you put it all together to increase your depth limit to the safe limits of air diving.

Extended Range Air provides the training and experience required to competently utilize air as a bottom gas for dives up to 180 fsw/55msw that require staged decompression, utilizing Nitrox mixtures and oxygen during decompression.

Some topics covered in this course include:

  • Advanced dive planning
  • Dealing with Nitrogen narcosis
  • Equipment configuration, including diving with double cylinders
  • Handling emergencies
  • DCI recognition and response

If you do not wish to go to 180 feet on air, you might consider taking this course with the Entry Level Trimix option. In addition to the above, you will receive the training required to competently and safely utilize breathing gasses containing helium for dives that require staged decompression, utilizing Nitrox and/or oxygen mixtures during decompression to a maximum depth of 200fsw/60msw.

This course requires six dives. Usually dives take place either locally at Mt. Storm in West Virginia or on Florida Springs trips. There are other options available.

PADI (DSAT) Tec Deep Diver

Splash has traditionally taught technical diving classes through TDI. PADI has introduced a number of "Tec" based classes recently. Basically DSAT Tec Deep is similar to TDI Extended range air diver. However, DSAT class is limited to 165 ft vs. TDI 180 ft. Dual certification can be arranged for both agencies at minimal cost, however there might be additional testing and administrative requirements.

Advanced Level Trimix

This course provides the training required to competently and safely utilize breathing gasses containing helium for dives that require staged decompression, utilizing Nitrox and/or oxygen mixtures during decompression to a maximum depth of 300fsw/100msw. The ultimate in Deep Diver training!

Currently we do not offer the DSAT Trimix class.

TDI Advanced Wreck

This course provides the training and experience to competently conduct advanced wreck dives, penetration skills and techniques are covered. This 6 dive class focuses on the development of overhead environment diving skills beyond the light zone and deep diving skills to 180 ft. No previous wreck diving certification required. However, TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures as well as Cavern are highly recommended.
