TS Hanna may rain on your dive plans this weekend, but it's dry and comfortable at Splash Dive Center. Why don't you join us for Emergency First Responder, DAN O2 Provider, and Equipment Specialty Classes!

Emergency First Responder (EFR) and DAN O2 Provider Saturday September 6, 2008
Class begins at Noon
Emergency First Responder (EFR) will give you the training and tools you need to assist the ill or injured in diving and non-diving emergencies, is a required course for Rescue Diver, and may help you save a life! This certification is valid for two years.

DAN O2 Provider will give you the training you need to safely administer oxygen to those in need. Research indicates that divers with possible DCS, as well as other illness and injury, have better recoveries when oxygen was provided early on. This class teaches you how to safely handle the oxygen units, and how to properly administer the oxygen for maximum benefit to the patient.

Equipment Specialty Sunday September 7, 2008
Class begins at 9:00 AM
This class is designed to take you inside your gear and remove some of the mystery about how the equipment you dive with actually works. It also provides you with basic field repair skills for the problems you can fix, and the ability to identify which problems are best left to the technicians who have special training and certifications from the manufacturers, as well as the proper tools and parts to properly service your dive gear. This class does not certify you to repair dive gear. We'll have plenty of gear to look at, but we encourage you to bring in the gear you own and dive with. This certification also counts towards Master Scuba Diver rating - the highest non-professional PADI rating you can achieve.

DAN's Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals (BLSPRO) program addresses not only entry-level basic life support skills, but also covers more advanced levels of care than offered by traditional CPR programs, including:
  • two-person CPR
  • ventilation using a bag valve mask
  • finger sweep
  • suctioning
  • cricoid pressure
  • the technique for caring for an unconscious choking victim
Geared for dive professionals, divers who find themselves in remote situations where emergency help is not immediately available and interested others who are involved with diving. Also excellent for EFR Instructors wanting to extend their knowledge and skills.

Class will be held Sunday, September 7, 2008 starting at 9:00 a.m. at Splash Dive Center.

Please register by Sunday, August 31, 2008 to allow sufficient time to order course materials and for independent study prior to September 7.

Try a Night Dive Saturday evening. Just join us for the fun or could be conducted as the PADI Night Adventure Dive towards your Night Dive Specialty or Advanced Open Water certifications. Also perfect for Divemaster Candidates wishing to meet the DM requirement for night diving experience.

Want to try a specialty or adventure dive, but haven't seen a class scheduled? You tell us and we'll make the class that weekend (okay, maybe not Boat or Coral Reef ID, but most of the other PADI specialties). Featuring Underwater Navigation on either Saturday or Sunday, we can also conduct Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep, Wreck etc.

Subject, of course, to over demand and scheduling conflicts, but call early and we'll work with you to try to make it happen.

The Quarry is at its best this time of year, still retaining the summer's heat with increasing viz as the algae and summer, silt-stirring crowds subside. A great opportunity to broaden your scuba horizons and have some late summer fun.

All of us here at Splash Dive Center, Inc. are saddened by the death of Susie Caskey. With great personal sorrow, her friends and former coworkers share the loss and extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family. We have lost a good friend and community leader. Susie managed the Herndon store for 2 years and worked for Splash for over 5 years. She loved leading Florida dive trips and was a PADI Divemaster.

Susan Connare Caskey, age 37 of Burke, Virginia died on Monday, December 31, 2007 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She had lived in the Northern Virginia area for the past 15 years and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was of the Roman Catholic Faith. She was a Sworn Animal Control Officer and promoted to Chief Animal Control Officer in 2006 for the City of Manassas Police Department. She was a member of Virginia Animal Control League Club; Manassas City Scuba Team; Fraternal Order of Police and a Board Member of Prince William County S.P.C.A.. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to City of Manassas Animal Adoption Center 10039 Dean Drive, Manassas, Va. 20110 in memory of Susan Caskey.
